"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." ~ from ISAIAH 61 Bible verse for this Blog

Honoring HELEN

This is my first time joining THANKFUL THURSDAY, though it is far from being the first THURSDAY I've been THANKFUL, and not including THANKSGIVING Thursday.
Because of "Sting my HEART" by Iris and her creative ideas like this,
I find it a privilege to write my first THANKFUL THURSDAY!
(I signed up for Mr. Linky but don't know how to do it very well so I may not get this linked)
BUT, I'M STILL THANKFUL!
Life is just too full of up and downs, moments to be thankful and moments when being thankful is the last thing on your mind! But the WORD of GOD says,
16Be joyful always;
17pray continually;
18give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. (NIV)
“Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Today, I would like to HONOR HELEN for her heart and say THANK YOU! (see LINK on the right under Favorite Sites with a Purpose)

I AM THANKFUL for HELEN for WHO SHE IS and HOW SHE USES THAT for a GOOD PURPOSE in all she does here in Mazatlan!

(sorry Helen that this may not be the best photo to post of you, but it's the only one I have with you and Bob)

Helen (and Bob) could have just come to Mazatlan, retire, enjoy life and forget about others.

But, because of WHO HELEN is, she became involved long before retiring, in part some of her heart comes from experiences from her own life and life back home in Canada.

I met Helen one day, and instantly she took me under her wing. She started by including me in a "fun project" where she raises money for noble causes:
this year it was for GANAC for the most part.
So what or who is GANAC?
www.ganac.org.mx/
Grupo Amigos de Niños Afectados de Cancer
Group of Friends of Children Affected by Cancer
[this alone is worth a posting]
Helen, weekly, has one of the open aired, beautiful "palapa" restaurants of Mazatlán-
in the Golden Zone(tourist side of town) provides and allows her to use their space to HOST her fund raiser!
From the proceeds, she not only gives a very generous "prize" but gives a matching amount to the CAUSE! And she has stretched it and given to many- Which is her sole purpose for doing it: TO GIVE BACK!

She invited me, last year, to join her and the other delightful volunteers, by translating to Spanish what her husband, Bob, announces in English [and I'd like to add that he has a very distinctive voice-so I'll call him"DJ Bob"] This year, she was able to get a native Spanish speaker, to help her with the Spanish translation part (better for business, to include more people from the community, in addition to the wonderful, faithful tourists that come and participate).

Helen is quite the organizer!

Helen is also very obedient and shows great wisdom!

Helen is quite creative!

Helen is compassionate, fun, loving and giving!

Helen is very involved!
After taking me, under her wing, Helen introduced me to many excellent organizations here in Mazatlán (most of which she partakes in and serves voluntarily):
MAZATLÁN ORPHANAGE
HANDS ACROSS THE BORDER
GANAC
RED CROSS (CRUZ ROJA)
SOMACUPA
http://somacupa.whatsupmaz.com/
This last organization is a new endeavor for this past year of much effort and hard work!
TODAY IS THEIR OPEN HOUSE!
You are invited to come and view the new office and meet the new nurse
on Thursday, 17 April, 2008, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
The office is located in the Walfre Real Estate Building, Sierra Rumorosa #33,
Lomas de Mazatlan.
This is across from the Polymedica building on Rafael Buelna.
SOMACUPA is located in the back part of the building(along the side). So, what does SOMACUPA mean and what do they hope to do?
SOMACUPA stands for SOciedad MAzatleca de CUidados PAliativos.
Now I know Spanish and I didn't understand that in Spanish or English...
Mazatlan Society of Paliative Care
in simple language, HOSPICE CARE,
though it certainly wasn't simple to bring it about.
Through the efforts of many; like Cherly Gray, Lois Croly, Dr. Levid Torres Guzmán,
Helen McIsaac, Bill Babione, Laura Herrera, Bill Nichols, Teri Kuzman, Nacho Ortega,
Kae Ruth, and associates like US Consular Agengy Mazatlán, Dra. Elena López Gavito,
Dr. Jorge Montalvo, Alfredo Gómez Rubio, Cecilia de Urquijo, J. Antonio Cevallos, Lissy and Lipita Bernal,
and many, many others...volunteers and supporters!!!
This HOSPICE is much needed here! It will provide a well-coordinated program of comfort care and support services, to assist family and patient, with their unique needs, while facing a limited life expectancy.
It intends to provide in-home services through a directed team of professionals-physicians, nurses, social workers, spiritual counselors and volunteers!
HELEN HAS HEART!
and it's HUGE!
(here's a glimpse into her creative and caring heart)
Forget - Me - Not
all the forgotten children of the world
Children of the world drop teardrops on the ground
We close our eyes and turn the other way
Weeping is in the air, ignore the sounds we do
Forgotten children of the world
How did we get this way
Forget-me-not the children pray
Evil holds some hearts, a chill is in their soul
Tearless is the way they are
Pain is all they've ever known
Children are born innocent until someone gave them pain
Never happiness only pain
Forget-me-not the children pray
Greed is in the hearts of many
Were they always this way
Children are the ones to suffer
Forlorn and abandoned some will surely be
Who will take the blame
Forget-me-not the children Pray
Please visit her site
Forget-Me-Not Mazatlán
http://forgetmenotmazatlan.com/
and contribute or give her your support,
because she will use whatever she gains
toward CHARITIES that she holds dear to her heart
and GOD'S!
And if you're ever visiting in Mazatlan between October and April,
come be a part and play as you enJOY & GIVE to these charities!
I AM THANKFUL for having met HELEN!
I AM THANKFUL for the heart of compassion HELEN exemplifies!
I AM THANKFUL for HELEN!
I AM THANKFUL for how Jehovah-JIREH provides
for HELEN
and
each of these charitible organizations HERE....
in MAZATLAN
MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS EACH ONE AS THEY BLESS OTHERS:
FORGET ME NOT
