~ JOURNEY from MOURNING to JOY ~
I selected the verse Isaiah 40:31 for my WFW (below), because it is one of my favorites and also the one I turn to "when I feel weak"... to renew my strength. But Matthew 5:4 lets me know there is a Comforter, who sees me through the mourning to the arms of Jesus, as does Eccles. with "THERE is a TIME..". a season that tells me this too shall pass.
Day 3 When you feel weak
Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress;
my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief. Psalm 31:9 |
For the 2 QUESTIONS "In the Bible" and "In your life" applications,
| In the Bible
1. What areas of your life does grief affect?
2. In this Psalm, where did David (the author) go for
help when he felt weak?
In your life
1. How is grief affecting you physically and emotionally?
2. How is grief affecting your relationships with others?
|
1. ..."Grief is multi-layered and can impact many areas of your life – physical, social, spiritual and psychological. People who are grieving will often report difficulty sleeping and eating, frequent crying spells, irritability, an inability to focus, and be productive at work. Grief is personal. Everyone grieves at a different pace. Again, the best thing you can do is to be patient and give yourself time to grieve."
"How do we receive this strength from the Lord?"
We receive it as we wait on the Lord. The idea behind wait on the Lord is not a passive sitting around until the Lord does something. Yes, God gives us strength; but we don’t expect it to come as if He were pouring it into as you sit passively. He brings it to us as we seek Him, and rely on Him, instead of our own strength. If we are weak, it is because we do not wait on the Lord!"

1. What areas of your life does grief affect?
ReplyDeleteAs I've said before, grief affects all areas of life - physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. It is one of the most overwhelming and pervasive human emotion.
2. In this Psalm, where did David (the author) go for help when he felt weak?
He always went to the Lord. There is no greater place to be when grieving than at the feet of the One who died to conquer death.
In your life
1. How is grief affecting you physically and emotionally?
I know that when I've gone through a period of grief I feel physically ill. I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can't think. I feel emotionally numb, out of it, like I'm living in a fog that clouds everything I do.
2. How is grief affecting your relationships with others?
Grief can isolate you - and that's a dangerous place to be. Grief can make you angry - and some people don't know how to react to it. Many people disappear because they don't know how to cope with grieving people. But, though a grieving person may want to be alone - it's better if they have an understanding friend or two. And grief must never allow us to separate from God's presence - He is the ONLY One who can truly comfort the grieving heart. Jesus was a man of sorrows, well acquainted with grief - He understands it all, intimately - He is a Source of great comfort.
GOD BLESS!
