Luke 9:23
And he said to them all, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
Lucas 9:23
"Y decía á todos: Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí,
niéguese á sí mismo, y tome su cruz cada día, y
sígame."
niéguese á sí mismo, y tome su cruz cada día, y
sígame."
I love VERSADAY because they are available for me in English and Spanish daily. The commentaries are brief and the photos are FANTASTIC! You can go to their site and read the one for this verse from Luke. This is part of the commentary by Francis L. Harris:
"...WE WILL DO WHAT WE WANT TO DO; whatever brings pleasure, whatever brings comfort, whatever is gratifying and agreeable to our nature and desires.... There is a CHANGE in our life when we come to Christ... NO CHANGE, NO SALVATION. We are not perfect, but we have a different direction in life."The ending is a beautiful conclusion of "yielding to Jesus by faith..." and our hope as we take up our individual cross. There is no greater LOVE that contains a blessed life here and after, an eternity of blessedness and JOY! When I read these words from Francis, I was stirred to grab hold of this JOY and pass it on to YOU!
After all that's what a WORD FILLED WEDNESDAY is all about, to pass on a WORD that speaks to us to others, visually making a difference: writing God's Word and Promises on our hearts and in our minds. So...
Let's lay down any burden or obstacle that is holding us back from fully yielding and following Him. Just look at these beautiful views... it'll all be WORTH IT!!!

Good morning, Peggy! Encouraging words, as always. I love this, "yielding to Jesus by faith."
ReplyDeleteLove the photos. My brother recently returned from a trip to Italy and Greece. Last night I went to his house to look at photos and he had one of the same (or similar) church. He said there are many churches in that area.
Blessings,
Joan
Wow...what incredible images!
ReplyDeleteWe must yield and look different and that means taking a good long look at what distracts us...This is a "hit ya where ya are" kind of devo and I LOVE that!! There is always work to do and pleasures & comforts to reassess...Such a great WORD Peggy!!
Happy Day to you!!
Beautiful. I'm so glad He is my Saviour.
ReplyDeleteA very important point...we must take up our cross DAILY! And we can't do it without Him and His grace. Thank you for reminding me that today is a new day and I must take up my cross AGAIN and follow Him!
ReplyDeleteThis was a much-needed word for me today, Peggy. I have a few burdens that are laying pretty heavy on my heart lately. So, in faith, I'm bringing them to the foot of the Cross - knowing that God cares about the people I'm thinking about more than I do. He is the Wise One who will figure it all out.
ReplyDeleteI just want to be His follower...
GOD BLESS!
Encouraging words! Thank you so much!
ReplyDeletePeggy, thanks for sharing doses of encouragement and joy to us today. May you be filled to overflow with His presence.
ReplyDeletethanks for introducing me to verseday! if I woulda been smart, I woulda named my site that years ago! hahaha.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement, and yes it's fab that it's in two languages! I wish I was talented enough to do that!
Oh, I needed this today!!
ReplyDeleteCarrying some burdens...but I don't know what they are. I know God will tend and care for me through it though....and that is all that matters.
