ISAIAH 61 says:

"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair."

FRIDAY FEATURE ~ FAITH FOCUS

FAITH FOCUS

Here are the verses from 365 PROMISES this week
Promise #268 - #273
to focus and feature on a verse chosen from these scriptures
2 Corinthians 1:3-4; Psalm 23:4; Jude 1:24; Romans 16:20; 1 Peter 1:3-4; Romans 4:20-21

I chose this one
from
Jude 1:24

"...To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy— "

I need God every day, by His Holy Spirit to keep me from falling and this reminds me of the wonderful result... His glorious Presence and great JOY! There it is "my Word for 2011" ... JOY! At the time I am writing this post, I am reading a really fun and good book to review... "Stumbling into Grace... Confessions of a Sometimes Spiritually Clumsy Woman " by Lisa Harper (I think it would make a really goooood Bible Study, of course I love anything with God's grace)... and stumbling is right up my natural way, although I'm usually not clumsy... I will TRUST God to keep me from stumbling...

So now it's your turn to choose one of this week's Promises of God from the choices above; share here in the comments or blog about it and link up here.

Focus your Faith on your chosen verse and share however you would like to feature the Promise. Remember to link the Scripture chosen and than your blog name if it fits

For more FRIDAY FEATURE info. or the beginning of this FAITH FOCUS in God's Promises follow this link.

If you don't see the Linky, please just add your title or link in the comments.

WFW ~ ABIDE in CHRIST

John 15:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (NIV)
I learned so much by "Waiting on God" by Andrew Murray, in August that I have decided for my birthday month of October, I will be ABIDING with "Abide in Christ" by Andrew Murray. I can't think of any better way for me to celebrate my birthday this year than to ABIDE more in Jesus!

I've decided that this is the perfect way for me to prepare for the season of "Giving Thanks" and "Christmas Love". So once again, I will be doing Andrew Murray's devotional DAILY here on my blog and in my personal quiet time and there's also a copy free online if you'd like to read along with me or ahead of me.

Here are a couple of quotes from the Preface of "Abide in Christ" by Andrew Murray:

"During the life of Jesus on earth, the word He chiefly used when speaking of the relations of the disciples to Himself was: "Follow me." When about to leave for heaven, He gave them a new word, in which their more intimate and spiritual union with Himself in glory should be expressed. That chosen word was:
"Abide in me.""

"In conclusion, I ask to be permitted to give one word of advice to my reader. It is this. It needs time to grow into Jesus the Vine: do not expect to abide in Him unless you will give Him that time

It is not enough to read God's Word, or meditations as here offered, and when we think we have hold of the thoughts, and have asked God for His blessing, to go out in the hope that the blessing will abide.

No, it needs day by day time with Jesus and with God. We all know the need of time for our meals each day--every workman claims his hour for dinner; the hurried eating of so much food is not enough.

If we are to live through Jesus, we must feed on Him (John 6:57);
we must thoroughly take in and assimilate that heavenly food the Father has given us in His life. Therefore, my brother(sisters), who would learn to abide in Jesus, take time each day, ere you read, and while you read, and after you read, to put yourself into living contact with the living Jesus, to yield yourself distinctly and consciously to His blessed influence; so will you give Him the opportunity of taking hold of you, of drawing you up and keeping you safe in His almighty life."

*
John 15:5-8 (The Message)

"I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you're joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can't produce a thing. Anyone who separates from me is deadwood, gathered up and thrown on the bonfire. But if you make yourselves at home with me and my words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon. This is how my Father shows who He is—when you produce grapes, when you mature as my disciples.
For more
 WORD FILLED WEDNESDAY
How are you ABIDING in CHRIST in this season of your life?
Is the fruit showing? Is the fruit being produced?
What does your HARVEST look like this year?

May you remain in Jesus Christ
so that He abides in you,
and
you will bear much fruit
with Him
all things are possible!

WOMAN of WORTH

Did you know that WOMAN of WORTH is W.O.W. but if you flip it upside down it spells M.O.M. and that is exactly what each MOM is: a WOMAN of WORTH!!! WOW MOM!!! Also many times in a week or even a day, we may feel flipped upside down as moms, but whichever way you look at it, God sees worth in you...As you can see, I have flip flopped and moved WOW to MONDAY... (that's when I get it in my email) in place of MOORE 4 Monday... it will be WOW... MOM (moved on Mondays) Moved, because I switched the days but also "MOVED" by how we connect with the women in the Bible, how we are touched, maybe how we are changed. Many of us can relate to different women in the Bible, and this week, she is the one for me besides another in the New Testament. Maybe I should not so readily admit this flaw... but there it is... Woman of Worth Moved On Mondays...

This was the CLUE I gave you to guess WHO the WOMAN of WORTH would be this week with Bible Gateway (BG).
CLUE:
  • she was a woman a great beauty
  • she committed adultery and murder
  • she came from a God fearing family
  • she became a mother of a writer in the Bible
  • she had a repentant heart along with her lover
  • she is listed in the genealogy of Jesus (that narrows it down)

The Woman Whose Beauty Resulted in Adultery and Murder

Scripture References —
2 Samuel 11:2,312:24;1 Kings 1:11-31; 2:13-19; 1 Chronicles 3:5
This BG devotional does not break down the life of this WOMAN as the previous ones. But there are 10 paragraphs after her meaning of her name and family connections.
  1. Paragraph 1... sacred record
  2. P2... sad story
  3. P3... "lazing around..."
  4. P4... sent for by the King
  5. P5... added insult
  6. P6... period of mourning
  7. P7... Divinely instructed
  8. P8... What about...
  9. P9... after her lapse, recovery and birth...
  10. P10... lesson learned
This is a deeply personal story of great meaning for me and different situations in my own life. I have focused my questions on what was the content of the 4th paragraph, then on the paragraph on MOURNING and lastly on Paragraph 8.

Questions to ponder or answer in the comments (if you choose) not mine but from the Bible Gateway reading:

Do you agree or disagree with this statement in P4 and why?
"...had she been a true wife and a woman of principle she should have refused to obey the king’s summons."
What is your view of the mourning of their child and as punishment?

What about.... our women of worth?
"...was she made conscious of her share in the iniquitous transaction of the past? did her tears of repentance mingle with those of her husband’s?
Why was not such a son given to one of the other wives?"
General Focus Questions for Bible Stories
1. What are the most interesting moments in the story? Why do these particular moments appeal to me?
2. In the story, who speaks and who listens? Who acts? Who gets what they want? If you were in the story, which person would you want to be friends with? Which person would you want to avoid?
3. What is God's interaction with the main characters? What does this tell you about the narrator's image of God? Do you agree with this image?
4. What is happening on either side of the story, in the chapters before and after it? Does this help you understand what is happening?
5. The narrator/editor has chosen to tell some things and leave other things out. What has been left out of the story that you would like to know?
6. Are the characteristics and actions of the people in the story still present in the world? How is the story relevant to modern life, especially your own?

CLUE for the next WOMAN of WORTH:

  • known as the woman who gave her all
  • she was a widow
  • she touches our hearts with her giving
  • Jesus noticed her and preserves her story, though without a name
She is a WOMAN of WORTH without a name, but known by a title/role

*NOTE:
This will be the last woman that I will be doing here each week but you can continue with Bible Gateway. During the month of October, I will be doing another book devotion by Andrew Murray,"Abiding in Christ" so I have decided to let this one go and return to it again later. I also am doing the wonderful study with Internet Cafe Devotions "PURE EMOTION" with Susan Lawrence, and need to focus. Hope you understand (to the two of my devoted WOW participants in this). Thanks!

SOAKING ON SONDAY (S.O.S.) ~ CARRY ME

WELCOME
to

SOAKING On SON DAY

I don't try to do this too often but I could not resist sharing two videos today.

The first one, is a CARRY over from my FAITH FOCUS this week, which was also the 49th anniversary of FROM THE HEART and her husband (isn't that awesomeso I want to dedicate the second song to them... Although it's about the LOVE of Our Precious Father, it also is the love He has given to these two that celebrate 49 years together (I'm sure not always easy to love unconditionally as Our Father) but strong enough to last and stay committed to their Promise and His to them. So, you may choose whichever video you'd like, because they both will bless your time soaking in the LOVE of Our Lord! The second one is also my prayer for this week... Happy Anniversary Alice and Leo!

My FAITH FOCUS for my FRIDAY FEATURE of God's Promises is from
Isaiah 40:31
Promise #264
"If you wait for Me, I will renew your strength."
"...but those who hope in the LORD
   will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint."

If you know me at all, you know that this is my verse by now. And after doing the entire month of August with Andrew Murray's "Waiting on God", I knew this was the one I needed. In case, you do not know why this is my verse, let me just share that it is the passage that the spirit gave me as I had the honor to read at my youngest brother's funeral, after we sang "On Eagle's Wings" and the selected reading of my brother from Kahil Gibran, The Prophet. Now years later, I am so much more thankful for the strength that God renews in me, the hope that keeps me soaring... God's spirit enabling me to run when I may be weary and walk even if I feel faint. He will carry me.

I clearly have a song or two for this; the one linked above and another special song for the Smiths (Selah) with Audrey Caroline... but this is the one I choose

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp569dzQVfQ

Yes, HE WILL and does CARRY ME and YOU!
