"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." ~ from ISAIAH 61 Bible verse for this Blog

GRATEFUL 2/4 GOD

For more about this, go back to here and follow any of these

I'm GRATEFUL to God, my Maker
My Secret Place
and
Fall Upon My Knees

FOR

He is able to wound
He is able to heal
He is able to reprove
He is able to forgive

Though your spirit may be wounded
Or your heart be filled with grief
If you're proud you'll have no hope
But the humble no defeat

Fall upon your knees
Cry out to your maker
He will hear you
'Cause He's your secret place

Fall upon your knees
Bow before your maker
He will deliver you
'Cause He's your secret place

He gives strength to the weary
He gives power to the weak
When you go to Him in secret
And lay prostrate at His feet

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 6:6
"My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald Chambers

Most of the references are about a "secret place"; an actual place to go privately to God, as in Psalm 91, but according to this song by Miriam Webster; "He IS your secret place".

I see this as meaning, that since He is God, Omnipotent, Omniscient, and All Powerful that He knows all our secrets, which makes Him, the covering of all our secrets, many hidden to us, until we are ready for them to be revealed and He ever so carefully brings us into that place, of knowing, understanding and receiving the truth, even of our own secrets, to ourselves. A time of self discovery or Jesus being revealed from deep within us. It is like that example of the onion layers being peeled away until we reach the core ... where we fall to our knees, knowing it's that inner core, our inner heart, known only to God ... placed in us, as we long for Him to fill that place. Healing begins ... "this is where the healing begins ..."

Thank You, LORD, my Maker, my Healer, my Strength, that You reveal Yourself to me in that secret place, that You are my Secret Place. Thank You for bringing me the revelation of so many truths about myself as tenderly and patiently as You do!
Thank You for continuing to reveal Jesus to and in me! Thank You for the privilege of knowing You and You knowing my heart, all the intimate details, all the yuck and all the yum, and You still accept me as I am and even more than that You love me!
Create in me a clean heart and in that secret place reign in me.
I exalt You as All knowing, Omnipotent, and Omniscient and surrender daily for You to change me. Melt me. Mold me. Make me more like Jesus! The Secret Place is where You dwell. may You dwell in me forever ... You are my Dwelling Place! I run to You. Lord, You give me peace because of Your strong, protective love. Shield me and be my refuge. Strengthen me in times of trouble. Wrap us in Your wings of love this day and always ...

"Welcome in this place"
I selected these 3 prayers from the liturgical prayers
for Pentecost compiled by David Bennett

Christ Jesus,
before ascending into heaven,
You promised to send the Holy Spirit
to Your apostles and disciples.
Grant that the same Spirit may perfect in our lives
the work of Your grace and love.

Grant us the
Spirit of Fear Of The Lord
that we may be filled with a loving reverence toward You.

The Spirit of Piety
that we may find peace and fulfillment
in the service of God while serving others;

The Spirit of Fortitude
that we may bear our cross with You
and, with courage, overcome the obstacles
that interfere with our salvation;

The Spirit of Knowledge
that we may know You and know ourselves
and grow in holiness;

The Spirit of Understanding
to enlighten our minds
with the light of Your truth;

The Spirit of Counsel
that we may choose the surest way of doing Your will,
seeking first the Kingdom;

Grant us
the Spirit of Wisdom
that we may aspire to the things that last forever;

Teach us to be Your faithful disciples
and animate us in every way with Your Spirit.
Amen.[source]

Breathe in me O Holy Spirit
that my thoughts may all be holy;
Act in me O Holy Spirit
that my works, too, may be holy;
Draw my heart O Holy Spirit
that I love but what is holy;
Strengthen me O Holy Spirit
to defend that is holy;
Guard me then O Holy Spirit
that I always may be holy.
St. Augustine of Hippo (AD 354-430)

Come, O Spirit of God
Holy Spirit, I offer myself
to your work of healing, peace and reconciliation.
In my busy world, bless my silent moments.
In the stillness of my heart, may I find peace within myself,
peace with others, and peace with you Amen. [source]

SOS ~ PEACE

I had to move my originally planned or scheduled post forward to fit this timely one in (even though it already is late from this past Thurs.' radio message) I have to share Daily Hope today for

PEACE, PEACE
...God's peace...

Rick Warren's DAILY HOPE message on Thursday was:

The Path to Personal Peace, Part 1
with my KEY VERSE for My ONE WORD
for 2013
PEACE
John 14:27
from the series that Rick Warren has been doing

"The starting point to peace is accepting what cannot be changed. In this message, Pastor Rick teaches that becoming resentful, bitter, or guilty over things you cannot change will keep you stuck on the road to peace. Learn how to change what you can and accept what you cannot." ~ Rick Warren

GRACE and PEACE

I received the following in my email on Thurs.
(Spanish version here) that led me to
the Radio message above. This kinda sums it all up.

“I am leaving you with a gift — peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” (John 14:27 NLT)

"Everybody thinks they have the key to peace of mind — or at least they want you to think so, so you’ll buy their product. I saw an ad for a perfume the other day called “Peace” perfume. The ad promised, “Wear it to feel serenity.” Now, folks, if it were that easy, it would be great — just put on a little perfume, and you’ll have peace of mind.

Peace of mind is such an important concept in life that people will do almost anything to find it. They will travel to exotic places at great expense. They will sniff a brain-destroying drug up their nose. They will experiment with New Age rituals. They will try all kinds of things.

But the truth is, very few people in this world are at peace with themselves. Most people carry a high degree of stress, anxiety, or tension in their lives. As a pastor, I have noticed that there are three things that tend to rob our peace:
  1.  When circumstances are uncontrollable, we often lose our peace. Much of life is beyond your control. You sit in gridlock traffic for hours and miss an important event. A couple keeps trying desperately for a baby, and it just isn’t happening. When these things — big or small — happen, we get frustrated and lose our peace of mind.

  2. When people are unchangeable, we tend to lose our peace. People naturally resist change. And they resent it when we try to change them. The quickest way to lose our peace of mind is to try to change somebody else, because most people are just not going to change.

  3. When problems are unexplainable, it’s easy to lose our peace. We know that life is not fair. Not everybody has a happy ending. Things don’t always turn out right. What makes it more difficult is that we are not always going to know why. And when we don’t know why, we tend to get anxious, nervous, and stressed, and we lose our peace.
God has promised peace of mind, because it’s a fundamental need of your life. One of the Hebrew names of God is Jehovah Shalom. “Shalom” means peace. “Jehovah Shalom” means “I am the God of peace.” Jesus says in John 14:27“I am leaving you with a gift — peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid” (NLT).

If God says, “I’m offering you a gift of peace,” He means it. It’s not something you work for. It’s not something you deserve. It’s not something you try for. You don’t beg for peace. You don’t plead for peace.

Peace has nothing to do with problem-free living. It is simply a gift that you must accept, and it’s available to you today.

Talk It Over
(for today we're just going to PONDER them and hand them over to the Prince of PEACE)
  • What are the uncontrollable circumstances that have robbed your peace lately?
  • Why do you think God allows us to have problems?
  • What are the results of living in peace? " ~ Rick Warren

Oh how I needed to hear all this message!!!

And in honor of PENTECOST SONday ... I will be posting again, a special SONG apart from this SOS!!! but before my Sunday Study.

COME HOLY SPIRIT!!! COME!

GRATEFUL 2/4 GOD ...

For more about this, go back to here and follow any of these

I'm GRATEFUL to God
as
Ruach, Spirit

"The Hebrew word for “spirit” is ruach (ru-ACH), which can be translated as “wind,” “breath,” or “mind.” It is closely associated with “life” since there is no life without “breath.”

The Spirit offers wisdom, ability, guidance, power, and revelation. So powerful is the breath of the Spirit that it can even bring the dead to life. Though Ruach when used in connection with God in the Hebrew Scriptures may simply refer to his power or his will, more often it signifies that God is present by his Spirit. “Holy Spirit” (Ruach Qodesh), “God’s Spirit” (Ruach El), “the LORD’S Spirit” (Ruach Yahweh), and “the Spirit of God” (Ruach Elohim)all are phrases found in the Hebrew Scriptures.

The word ruach can also describe angelic beings or even the “spirit” of a human being.

In the New Testament the Greek word pneuma refers to that which gives life to the body, to the human spirit, to good and evil spirits, and to the Holy Spirit. The Greek word Parakletos is also used and is translated as “counselor,” “advocate,” or “helper." ~ Ann Spangler

Looking forward to the upcoming Pentecost SONday and this is why my focus is on His SPIRIT! His Spirit alive in me! in us! He breathes His life into us.

SCRIPTURE: Genesis 1:2; Deut. 32:11; Joel 2:28-29; John 6:63; John 14:26

PRAYER: Spirit of the Living God, Ruach, breathe Your life into me. Purify, counsel, encourage, convict, and enable me. Give me Your gifts that I may use them wisely in Your service.

Holy Spirit
Thou art welcome in this place

TRUTHS OF TUES. STUDY (T.O.T.S.) EG~4

Each week, I'm alternating between 2 different series from "Living on the Edge" with Pastor Chip Ingram. To learn more about what I'm doing, you can go back here. For "Finding God when you need Him most" ~ 1 (EG1); go there also.

This is the 4th one from this series:

Experiencing God
(EG)
When You're Troubled and Depressed

Part 1 (March 15, 2012)
Part 2 (March 16, 2012)

Psalm 77

First off, Pastor Chip shares some very valuable information on depression From "Understanding and Coping with Depression".

Where's God when this happens?
Where is your faith?
Where is this victorious Christian life?
Where is this "peace that passes understanding"?
Where is this abundant life that you've told others about?
What do you do with this, bury it, deny it, fake it,
repress it, pretend it doesn't exist?
What's the right response?
What exactly would God have us do?

Pastor Chip goes through a brief run down on the causes and symptoms of feeling depressed. Followed by a definition. Physical, psychological, spiritual ... well explained briefly.

LIFE LESSONS from Psalm 77

1. Times of depression are something even the most godly wrestle with on occasion.  Psalm 77:1-9

2. Taking time to recall God’s specific blessings in our past, provides perspective and peace in the present.
Psalm 77:10-20

How?
 STOP! Take time to __________ .  Psalm 77:10-12
 LOOK! Get a fresh ___________ .  Psalm 77:13-15
 LEARN! He will ___________ you.  Psalm 77:16-20

God wants to help you!
God teaches us through Asaph in this Psalm.

Psalm 32 (David exhibits clinical depression from his sin, but not all depression is sin but it can be from sin or cause us to sin)

An Action Plan to Overcome Depression:

1. Examine Your Thinking:
• Do you recognize that it is normal to feel depressed now and then?
• Is your focus on the pressure / problems you’re experiencing; or on your response to those pressures / problems?
2. Examine Your Behavior:
• Are you choosing positive or negative responses to your depression?
• Have you willfully stopped to recall God’s blessings in your past?
 - pictures   - old videos  - slides   - journals  - albums  - napkin exercise
3. Examine Your Future:
• Can the God who did so much in your past handle what you are facing today?
• Is there a specific, positive step you could take to thank God or to help someone else in order to demonstrate your confidence in God’s love for you?

PRAY
the Psalms back to
GOD
whenever you feel troubled or depressed

Every other week, messages in this series, yet to come:

5.Experiencing God When You are Gripped by Fear
6.Experiencing God When You've Blown it Big Time
7.Experiencing God in Times of Confusion

GOD'S GLACIAL MOVE in MN

We interrupt this normally scheduled blog posting, for what is happening back in my home state of MN this past weekend to PRAY for the people that have had to deal with this -unbelievable "ice tsunami's" whoa:

MN news
I caught this via Yahoo, when I went to open my email
but they would not allow me to view the video so
I went looking for others, the first one I found was from a newbie but had foul language so I skipped using that one and
chose this one above.
Did you all hear above this in your news?

And to think, I'm enjoying my weekend since Friday's Mother Day to SONday's Mother Day, with some great books, and the SON/sunshine [I couldn't upload my videos yet, wrong format, I think, so here's a few photos] on my island adventure, but it's really a peninsula called 'Isla de La Piedra' {Rock Island} It's another place that I had never bothered to go see in these last 18 years, just from afar I viewed it, like from the Lighthouse or the other mainland side. You have to take a small boat to get there [25 pesos there and back] to see rocks, rocks and more rocks! Boulders and clear blue water ... not ice glaciers in May?

Yep, that's the famous Lighthouse in the background
from my October climb

What's an old lady like me doing climbing these rocks in a full length skirt, snapping photos of myself, and then finally asking someone to take a full shot with the Lighthouse in the background! [above taken on Fri. pm and the following on SONday from the view in front of the restaurant I chose to go eat at on SONday] on the Pacific side ... yep, peaceful, pacific not glacial globs of mass destruction. Maybe I'm better off here in Mexico, if we are returning to the glacier years ... brrrr MN

oh, and my rose bud
from God
at my new house
just in time

Hope you each enjoyed a
wonderful and blessed weekend!
Let's pray for God to move in Minnesota
not with more natural disasters and storms
but
with the power of His sweeping and everlasting
saving grace, faith that can move mountains (not houses),
foundations built and established in Jesus Christ, Our Rock
and hearts turned toward Him!

How's God moving in your life?

*I know this is a bit too much with all my other ongoing Bible study posts. I'm suppose to have been starting a new reading plan with You Version and She Reads Truth(SRT) on Nehemiah (like God told me to read last year, remember? Hosea and Nehemiah)(there are two great ones at You Version: SRT(17 days) and a 40 day one from American Bible Society Restart: Stepping Out in Faith (excellent!!!) and also one by Mars Hill Church, but I am really enjoying listening to Pastor Chip Ingram and Rick Warren with their radio program studies while I do my emails and such. Mars Hill, in Seattle has their study based on "Building a City within a City" with pastor Mark Driscoll (I just don't have enough time at the public cyber) but it is certain that we all need Jesus, as MN and probably your community does, Mars Hill started off with this as an "experiment to see if we can build a city within the city that would love the city and seek a transformation of the city, as the city meets Jesus" (Matthew 5:14) stating that the heart of Nehemiah is to be laboring to build the city of Jerusalem, this big church, as it were, to be an example to the nations of the earth. And it gives us hope as urban people in a city that God has a heart for the city, particularly our city as well.

So I'm examining Nehemiah again with new insights ...
"... And so as we examine the Book of Nehemiah, here’s what we’re going to learn, that the book is not just about building a set of walls. So many of the commentators will say, “And this is about a building project.” Well, it is, but it’s ultimately about building a home for the church, God’s people in the Old Testament to gather together to read scripture, to pray, to worship, to live in a city within the city, to live as a city of light that emanates out to the world to give an example of what life could be like through Jesus. And so when we read Nehemiah, I need you to understand that we really are talking about a group of people who are undertaking a project that is very much similar to ours. They’re urban, we’re urban. They love the God of the Bible, we love the God of the Bible. They’re in a culture that desperately needs the God of the Bible. We’re in a culture that desperately needs the God of the Bible. They are waiting for Jesus. We’re waiting for the second coming of Jesus.
And God is going to use this man, Nehemiah, to begin to lead God’s people toward God’s mission. And so I need you to start to think in the grand theme of the book, which is building a city within the city ... "
[pdf of the transcript from Pastor Mark] He explains this so well!]
The 40 day study from ABS is really an excellent one for a church study and community project: "See the community around you with new eyes. Take this 40-day journey through the book of Nehemiah to discover God's heart for rebuilding broken lives and hopes."
I'm finally understanding why God asked me a year ago to read and study this!
