"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." ~ from ISAIAH 61 Bible verse for this Blog

IMPERFECT PROGRESS of EMOTIONS (IPE)

OK, I was almost set to do this one for the 31 Day Challenge  for this month and had them set up to go, when I changed my mind to a different one. Yet I did not want to hide this one away as a draft, so I slipped it in here and I may add each day ... as well ... as the month progresses but I will not be posting daily for the 31 days on this; only this one of IMPERFECT PROGRESS (do you think this falls under being "unglued"?) or maybe it's just a good example of fickle emotions such as indecision, doubt, insecurity, etc. and making good use of my woman's prerogative ... mood swings and sharing as much as I can <3

60 Days of Devotional
(divided in half
makes 30 Days
of
"Imperfect Progress"
of Emotions
only
(after all, we're a little imperfect)
plus
one more day to sum it up
[actually not even 30]

Day 1*1 Timothy 4:15

Thought for the day

"Just because something is hard doesn't mean it's impossible" ~ Lysa TerKeurst

"God, this process is revealing to me my greater need of You each day. Please help me to take steps toward making imperfect progress today"

* actually Day 2 in Lysa's book

"Imperfect Progress"

Well, take these next 30-31 days of some of my "imperfect" side of me and we'll see. "Imperfect Progress" is best explained in Day 2 of Lysa's devotional as ... "slow steps of progress wrapped in grace". Yeah, I need plenty of THAT! Grace, grace, and more aMazing grace!

Progress = advancing, going forward, hopefully for the better, a consistent flowwhereas Imperfect tends to imply consistent flaws, or is that persistent flaws that consistently make us far from perfect?

Yes, works or masterpieces that still need that final touch, the touch and perfection of Our Master, because after all, we are in progress, moving forward, one step at a time, one day at a time ...

It is probably easier to see my "unglued" side then any progress ... but that title has already been taken, and very well written, I might add (since it quickly made the New York Times Bestseller list and stayed there ... woo hoo, way to go, Lysa). The rest of Lysa's title for"Unglued" makes this even better and more true for me ... "Making Wise Choices in the Midst of Raw Emotions".

I thought of calling this "31 days of a ROLLERCOASTER" with variations of "wild", "ride", "hi's and lo's" (that's highs and lows) ... but this one suited me, as a former educator, that had to be familiar with the term "IPE" for our students, our precious daughter was the one who really made me familiar with this with the adjustments made to better her learning in a class.

I've waited much of this year to share more from Lysa's great book since the webcast. I had various ideas of what I may do for this month of 31 Day Challenge for the longest time as you can tell by the many 30-31 day challenges I've been doing (check out my PAGE above if you have not yet done that)(I won't share the others because I DO plan on still doing them, just not sure whenmaybe next year?) if I've made any progress by then. (lol)

One I considered is "31 Days of Letting Go ... " (whoa, try a lifetime of letting go ...of so MUCH (I ended up adding this at the end of the one I am doing) all because I came across 31 days of prayers for this, and others that have done 31 days of letting go of various things, thinking I have ALOT to let go of (I can do 31 days of this, no sweat) ... I really thought I had done that, I mean I really thought I had let go of them, but that's my point ...

Imperfect Progress. Lysa TerKeurst would probably laugh at this and how similar our "imperfect progress" is in our very different lives, yet the same in this and she'd be glad to know, as she found out when she wrote this book, how many of us relate to being imperfect with hopes of progress. Yes, we most definitely are "works in progress" ... and He's not done with me yet! How about you?

[I still can't decide if this may be the BEST choice for October, 'cuz I'm still working on it, as HE continues to work on me, and I process all my emotions and progress to see how God's refining me. My emotions have gotten the best of me far too often. It's time for the Refiner to rough out and tough out the edges, those imperfections, as I surrender my emotions once again to His control over me and them. The good, the bad and the ugly... giving them all to Him.] Obviously I decided ... not ... (oh, not that I'm not giving this all to Him, just not doing IPE!

I may add the other IPE Days like this:

Day 2* ~ Time for a New Script

Isaiah 41:13

Thought for the day
"While feeling unglued is all I've really known, today my life can be different."
~Lysa TerKeurst

* actually this is Day 1 and yesterday's was Day 2, but I reversed them

What emotion or feeling do you get when starting over?

Day 3 ~ God, I'm a Little Mad and a Lot Confused

Thought for the day

God is big enough to handle our honest feelings.

From this point on, I can't make any guarantees that the 31 Days will be here, but the ones I choose may not be according to the days# in Lysa's TerKeurst's 60 Day devotional.

Since I'm not sharing all 60, but choosing ... I'm going with the ones that struck me the most and perhaps mean the most to my IMPERFECT journey ... so that I too can make some PROGRESS, hopefully MATURE some and be able to choose and make better, consistent decisions (especially as regards what I publish for you to read or follow).

If this does not make any sense to you, don't worry(consider yourself fortunate and normal). The easiest explanation is my Day 4 may not be the day 4 in the "Unglued" devotional written by Lysa TerKeurst. If you have your own copy or want to get a copy, which I highly recommend if you're at all "unglued" like me (and Lysa and so many others), then you will get the full picture with the full devotion by Lysa and relate as you enjoy the stories she shares, making you know it's OK, to accept the fact that our lives, our emotions, our reactions are still MESSY at times, and as Lysa writes:
"... That’s where grace steps in and wraps mercy around and around my heart, reassuring me, ..." (then the part that 96 others highlighted whereas I did that first part) ... “This, this hard stuff, is why you need a Savior. It’s why you need to spend time with Him.” Our MESSIAH, who takes our messes and turns them into His Message! (my rephrase of Lysa or what someone said)...
Day 4 ~ Feeling Guilty?
Psalm 139:13-14
Thought for the day
"Sometimes I feel guiltier for what I'm not than thankful for what I am"~Lysa

82 people highlighted Lysa's prayer that starts out like this:"Dear Lord , You made me in Your image — and that is something I seem to forget daily. Please help me remember to celebrate and live in who You made me to be, and not dwell on what I wish I were ... "  how might you end this prayer for you?

condemnation or conviction?
(that's actually another day in Lysa's devotional)
and feeling guilty? well, if so
..."cut the threads of guilt with the edge of grace"~Lysa TerKeurst ...
whenever I explode
I feel guilty
after I confess
I still feel guilty
when someone keeps reminding me of my offense(s)
I can't help but feel guilty
yet I still know deep in my heart
that my guilt is washed cleaned and under the precious blood of Jesus
as soon as I confess or admit my wrong doing

Day 5 ~ Self Control

Thought for the day

The answer to keeping God's power with me and working in me to produce self-control is letting His Word get inside me.

definitely need this one STILL

Day 6 ~ The Root of my Rot

Thought for the day

How we react is a crucial gauge of what's really going on inside us.

and oh, how I've struggled with the roots of  ??? my rot and more

Day 7 ~ The Stuffer who Collects Retaliation

Thought for the day

Am I trying to prove I'm right or improve this relationship?

Proverbs 15:18

* actually this is Day 13

I have been the recipient of retaliation

Day 8 ~ The Stuffer who Builds Barriers

Thought for the day

It's unfair of me to use my expectations as the standard for someone else's behavior or hold it against her when she doesn't live up to my hopes.

2 Corinthians 2:8 (ESV)

* actually this is Day 12

I know what it's like to build barriers.

Day 9 ~ The Exploder who Blames Others

1 Peter 4:7

Thought for the day

Feelings are indicators, not dictators.

* actually this is Day 9

Day 10 ~ The Exploder who Shames Herself

Thought for the day

Sip the shame so you won't have to guzzle gallons of unwanted regret.

Philippians 4:8

I have been in this place called shame

These are the BEST (but since they are "procedure manual", you really need to read them in Lysa's manual ... ) and if I would have done just the first 30 days then I would not have had the 5 Steps anyways ...

DAY 28: PROCEDURE MANUAL
STEP 1: Remember Who You Are
DAY 29: PROCEDURE MANUAL
STEP 2: There Is Power in the Name
DAY 30: PROCEDURE MANUAL
STEP 3: Walking in the Flow
DAY 31: PROCEDURE MANUAL
STEP 4: Attitude of Gratitude
DAY 32 : PROCEDURE MANUAL
STEP 5: Your Reactions Determine Your Reach

TO BE CONTINUED???
maybe someday or there's always next year
(well, there's still 21 days to go)

I'm so blessed to have an autographed copy of
"UNGLUED"
the actual book
so this DEVOTIONAL I purchased is

and
I LOVE THEM BOTH!

Well, obviously, I thought "naught"

[an excerpt from Zondervan's special NIV]

[the above image is from there so you will know you're there when you see it]

The following questions go with the excellent reading so you really should read that there first.

"Scripture Reading and Study Questions
Read: Psalm 52:9; John 16:33; Romans 5:3-5; 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

For what You have done I will always praise You; in the presence of Your faithful people; And I will hope in Your name, for Your name is good. - Psalm 52:9 (NIV)

Psalm 52 is a song that looks straight into the face of evil, of terrible forces that plot evil. He also recognizes that God has allowed the problem to manifest itself. It is here, in the face of this struggle that David restates his faith in the sovereignty and wisdom of God.

Cancer is an enemy that strikes fear into the heart of anyone who hears that diagnosis.

1. You may not understand God’s plan, but can you faithfully say, I trust God’s sovereignty?

2. Can you testify with David, saying, “I know God is in charge, and will testify that God is good”?

3. What would it take for your faith to grow larger than the word cancer?

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. - John 16:33 (NIV)

4. The Holy Spirit is a source of strength, who knows the heart and mind of the father. List two specific questions for which you would like answers.

5. Since the Holy Spirit only speaks what he hears, would you still trust God if you do not hear the answers you want to hear?

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put  us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.  - Romans 5:3-5 (NIV)

6. There is a marvelous progression to this passage, which ends up with hope in God. It begins with the word perseverance. Create a personal game plan for persevering through the days ahead. What can you add to your routine to strengthen your daily walk with God?

7. This passage ends with hope, which does not put us to shame. This is a tough question but is your hope in God, or in a cure? Would your hope stand if the outcome were different from the one you have set in your mind?
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. - 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

8. We end today by praying for God’s blessing for those who have endured a diagnosis, which has produced fear in them. How can you use this prayer to encourage others who are suffering with a chronic, or potentially fatal illness?

9. What can you do to become God’s hands and feet, to carry this prayer of encouragement to an ill friend or loved one?

ACTS ~ Day 30

Since this is the last post in this series and my October Challenge series will be starting, I bumped this one up to an earlier posting than 6pm. Hope you enjoyed this and will join me for the next 31 days. What a hoot this is to continually have blog posts? (sorry to those of you that receive via email - maybe you should reconsider since this adds up to so much mail this way and I plan to be doing this continuously for quite some time, it looks like every day into next year. Just warning ya' all)

"Two thousand years ago the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ forever changed the world! On the day of Pentecost, while his followers were gathered praying and reading Scripture, God again miraculously moved with power that launched the greatest movement in history!

For the past 29 days we have journeyed together reading, praying, and living the book of Acts –the fascinating eyewitness biblical account of the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church!

Our hope has been to ignite our nation and world by living out God’s Word through our congregations and organizations, in our small groups, and as individuals. Our prayer has been to see our cities and communities transformed for God’s glory!

Throughout our journey, we have been learning to live the story that will continue to be told until Christ returns. The disciples first preached the story with power in Jerusalem and the result was amazing! Luke, the author, declares, “Everyone was amazed by the many miracles and wonders that the apostles worked. All the Lord’s followers often met together, and they shared everything they had. They would sell their property and possessions and give the money to whoever was in need. Day after day they met together in the temple. They broke bread together in different homes and shared their food happily and freely, while praising God. Everyone liked them, and each day the Lord added to their group others who were being saved” (Acts 2.43-47).

The book of Acts concludes by stating, “For two years Paul stayed in a rented house and welcomed everyone who came to see him. He bravely preached about God’s kingdom and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ, and no one tried to stop him” (vv 30, 31).

God’s Word is not meant just to inform us, but transform us. We are called to put God’s Word into practice – to become “doers of the Word” – to live God’s Word. Acts 1.8 declares, “But the Holy Spirit will come upon you and give you power. Then you will tell everyone about me in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria, and everywhere in the world.”

I know that we are reading through the book of Acts, but as I read this title for today "Touched but not changed", the story that came to me from the Bible, was that of a woman, who with one touch was changed ... after years of affliction and suffering, she reached out just to grasp the hem of Jesus garment, feeling so unworthy, but so wanting to be changed, believing that Jesus was the One who would bring that much needed change. His impact on her was instant and Jesus felt His power go out of Him. What would have been this story if it agreed with this title of being "touched but not changed"?

Many of us are touched often momentarily (please know that there is no condemnation in my wordsor perhaps during a missionary's talk about their work in another country, or a movie, or a community project, etc. touches us or moves us deeply but we are not changed, we do not ACT because we go back to our same routine and forget that our power, our part is necessary in helping that one reach one more for Jesus. We aren't all called to another 3rd world country or meant to go beyond our immediate calling right where we are and able to do and impact, but we each are called to do our part, whatever our part may be, don't underestimate it just because it is not a missionary outreach to another country. How can we be touched and remain unchanged?

This is the real question. How do we stand by and watch others perishing? Again the reason for me doing this study with hopes that others would also.

What would have happened if this woman reached out for the touch of Jesus and was left unchanged? Many times we reach out to share Jesus, years pass and those same lives remain unchanged. Is it because we are at fault? Is it because we did not pray right? I hardly think so.  I can think of so many questions that go along with this thought of the many that remain unchanged and our power, our part. Maybe you, like I, have a "Felix" in your life. But let's learn from Paul's example of not giving up, giving in and let's continue again and again to touch them through our prayers and love of Jesus, without a word, Jesus changed this woman with a touch as His power went out of Him and into her.
