"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." ~ from ISAIAH 61 Bible verse for this Blog

DAY 30
Focusing on the Name
IMMANUEL
"God with us"

Isaiah 7:14
Isaiah 8:8
Matthew 1:20-21, 23

(as we focus toward the upcoming season or any season really)

He is
GOD WITH US
Immanuel

Thank You, O dear Immanuel, for coming to abide and dwell and live in us. Thinking of You with us, always brings me such joy and comfort! I thank You for each season that I can rejoice in You as Emmanuel. Immanuel, thank You for restoring, rescuing and redeeming our relationship with God. Thank You for coming as Emmanuel when our sins made it impossible for us to come to You. Open my eyes to Your Presence today as Immanuel!

NOVEMBER "NAMES of GOD" THANKS GIVING ~ 29

DAY 29
Focusing on the Name
Jehovah Ori
the Lord of Light
Light of the World
Light
[My One Word for 2012]

Psalm 27:1
John 8:12
John 9:5
Psalm 119:105
Revelations 21:22-27

With today being "Black Friday" and all that entails, I was sure that the best name of God for today would/should be "Light" in the darkness of this world (material world) and just all the evil that exists (not just associated with "Black Friday" however ...) yet God's Light, that we need more than ever, needs to shine more brightly in this season. particularly on this day, the havoc that usually permeates our lives and the chaos that we allow to enter our lives, at a time when we should be seeking more hope, more love, more peace and more real JOY. I looked into the background of this day and why it came to be called "Black Friday" (briefly-because economically the stores moved from being in the red to the black as in beginning to make a profit, better explained by following the link) ...

When I saw this name as "Jehovah Ori" ... which I was not at all familiar with before (until I read Beth Gayden's book of "21 days ...), I just knew that Jesus was the Light of the World and how we are to shine His Light into the darkness. So I know God as Light, yet looking at the word "ori" gives this a deeper meaning still. I have to remind myself that this is not a study (lol) but a great time to give God thanks as Our Light!

"Jesus Christ, Light of the World, shine on me. Let Your Light penetrate and change me, helping me to reflect Your glory. May I be a light that leads others to You." Ann Spangler, Names of God Bible

Thank You Lord as the Light in my life! You are my Light and my salvation! I thank You that You come to me in the midst of the darkness and shine Your beautiful Light.

Thank You that You are the lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path! Thank You for directing me with the bright Light of Your love in times of darkness, loneliness or confusion. I thank You that Your Light illuminates my mind to see and understand more clearly in Your Word and in discerning things in this world. I will walk in Your Light each day with the assurance that Your love will carry me through each storm, each trial, each day, whether it's bright or dark, You are My Light!

Thank You Elohim, that in the beginning, You created the heavens and the earth, and then You spoke forth Light into the darkness in the world. This world still needs Your Light to shine brightly but it seems to be dimming more and more. Show us how to burn and shine with Your Light to the many in darkness. Give us Your Light each day to guide and lead us safely. Thank You that "this little light of mine" shines as I receive power from You, my Light source, my connection through Your precious Holy Spirit. Shine on, LORD of Light, Jehovah Ori.

NOVEMBER "NAMES of GOD" THANKS GIVING ~ 28

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today I am giving so much thanks to God
and thanking you for joining me this day by offering you
a Thanksgiving Gift
even if it's not by me, it's from me
a link to the Navigator's that I shared here back in 2010
Thirty Days of Praying the Names of God
(I wish I had discovered this again before I set out
on this 30 day venture)(lol) pdf link here

May this truly deepen and draw you closer to God as you
pray and focus on Him!

A very blessed Thanksgiving to you and yours!
DAY 25
Focusing on ALL the Names of God

OK, not all of the 600+ but at least the ones that I have shared, because I could not choose just ONE for this day. However, that did get your attention, right? You remember that I have shared long lists of names here once before like Day 27. It was in honor of God and a 500th anniversary here where I shared God's attributes. Then before that my 100th! That's the one that shared God's Names.

Sure, I may have chosen, Our Provider (Jehovah Jireh) but I want to focus more on His Gracious capacity of so many wonderful attributes that attest to Him as the great "I AM", the LORD Most High, the One who is, and was and will always be: the Living God, not just the One who supplies all our needs or gives us such a plentiful harvest or inheritance beyond our imaginations! God is more than just an instant "Pop" machine. God is more than Generous, Giving or Gracious!!! He's GOD!

I thought and thought of which Name might I choose on this special day of giving God thanks for everything and more! Just for WHO HE IS, as has been my emphasis this month and this year. Not on what He does or has done, but who He is!!! I have tried to experience God in all the various aspects of Who He is and His beautiful, wonderful attributes that He displays to me (and you) if you are seeking more of Him.

Finally I decided that this name of God would do best for today.

BREAD of LIFE
John 6:35
John 6:48-51

"Give us  today our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses (debts)."

Thank You Lord, You are the Bread of Life!
Yes, Jesus, I believe You are the Bread of Life.
I thank You for sustaining me with Your life giving presence!
May I remember this each time, I break bread or
share in communion with others.
Your Bread, You as the Bread of Life
and that You gave Your life for me!
Thank You seems so inadequate!
Yet I am truly thankful for You!
You are my daily bread each day.
As I draw near and read from Your Word,
I am nourished and so blessed, so fed, so full.

NOVEMBER "NAMES of GOD" THANKS GIVING ~ 26

DAY 26
Focusing on the Name of God
as
YEHOSHUA (Yeshua) =  Jesus, Joshua
meaning
"Yahweh is Help"
"Yahweh is SALVATION"

Yahweh [the LORD] is Salvation
Jesus is Yahweh come to earth

My focus is on
Jesus, Our Salvation
Jesus, Our Savior

Acts 4:12

"Fortunately for us, our Savior has come. Yeshua is God, the all-powerful; the Lord who bends toward us, dying and then rising and reaching out to save us." Ann Spangler in the Names of God Bible

Psalm 27:1-4
[source]

Psalm 91

I could not enter in to Thanksgiving day or month, without setting aside one day to honor Yeshua, Jesus Christ as My Salvation, the Salvation of the world. I sing it and say it often. I thought about sharing this Name, back when I reviewed Billy Graham's book on Salvation, "The Reason for My Hope" yet somehow, I felt it preceded best the day of Thanksgiving, so that my mind and heart would be set on Jesus Christ and this precious gift of salvation (rather than "turkey", since I don't have that wonderful feast here in Mexico as I would back home in MN) but wherever I am I must give thanks daily for the SALVATION that Jesus Christ has made possible for me and you!

"Jesus, name above all names
beautiful
SAVIOR
Glorious Lord"

Thank You for Salvation.
Thank You for being my Salvation.
Thank You that You are my Savior.
Thank You that as Yehoshua
YESHUA
You are my help, my salvation
O Yahweh, my ever present help
whenever
wherever
BE EXALTED
RECEIVE MY THANKS and PRAISE
forever and ever

NOVEMBER "NAMES of GOD" THANKS GIVING ~ 25

DAY 25
Focusing on the Name

BRIGHT MORNING STAR
Psalm 139:11-12
2 Peter 1:19
Revelation 20

"Have you ever wondered why we celebrate Christmas on December 25? It’s not because we know exactly when Jesus was born. In fact, evidence in Scripture would point to a spring rather than a winter birth date. The church chose December 25 in the early fourth century because that was the day on which some pagan religions celebrated the winter solstice and the birth of the sun." Ann Spangler; Names of God Bible"

The BIRTH of the SON
did happen
Son of Man, Son of God
"... not for the birth of the sun, but the One who made it." from 4th century bishop

Lord, Bright Morning Star, thank You for letting Your star rise in my heart each day. Thank You that "I wait with eager expectation for the day of Your coming, basking in Your Light and living in the brightness of Your Presence! You rise and shine brightly in the darkness of this world. Thank You for coming as the Son of Man and Son of God, for lowering Yourself so humbly by coming in a manger to walk among us as the King of kings and Lord of lords, making the Godhead approachable to sinners, unworthy and unmerited favor shone forth from Your birth until now in Your story written on our hearts. Blessed be the Name of the Lord forever! Worthy are You of all our love and praise, all our thanks and all the glory is Yours! Thank You!

NOVEMBER "NAMES of GOD" THANKS GIVING ~ 22

DAY 22
Focusing on the Name

Advocate, Defender

Jesus Christ is Our Intercessor
a great High Priest

Jesus Christ our Intercessor
Hebrews 7:25
John 17:15
1 John 2:12
John 16:23

Through Christ we can come boldly to God. Jesus is our perfect intercessor, seated at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us continually.

Lord, thank You for being our Advocate and Defender as our Intercessor. I thank You for interceding for us daily, not turning us away when we need help, nor condemn us when we fail. Thank You God, for Your patience and Your mercy. Thank You for sending us a Helper, a Counselor, a gift to guide our way and mature us with Your fruit. I'm so grateful that when we sin, You are there to advocate and intercede so our fellowship with the Father can be restored. Thank You for Your continuous love and defense even when we don't deserve it, You give us Your righteousness and we are worthy and righteous in You. There is no one like You. Bless Your Holy Name. Thank You for pleading our case to the Father and representing us, speaking on our behalf. How awesome it is to know You as my Advocate! Thank You for being the perfect Intercessor so that we too can learn to intercede one for another in Your precious Name.

NOVEMBER "NAMES of GOD" THANKS GIVING ~ 21

DAY 21
Focusing on

God as My Song

Exodus 15:2
Psalm 118:14
Isaiah 12:2
Psalm 40:1-3
Zephaniah 3:17

Lord, You are my song! Thank You for singing Your song over me. Thank You that I hear You sing Your sweet song from within my heart when I need to know that You are with me, it wells up and fills me with Your Presence! I delight in You as You delight in me as we make melody and harmony together. Each beat of my heart and every breath I take is a blessing from the rhythm of Your song and love for me. I am so grateful for You and a song from You is an extra portion of Your grace flowing into me. May I sing Your praises always and forever!

I rejoice in the beautiful gift of music as I am most thankful for the variety that You have gifted so many so that I may enjoy. When I think of You as my Song, I sense such a sweetness of peace and harmony, as the song seems to strengthen me or reveal my weakness and brokenness that needs Your healing touch. You speak to me through songs so I am eternally thankful that I am blessed to be able to hear and enjoy, feeling each note and rhythm that impresses upon me how great You are, how beautiful, how kind, how aMazing! I exalt You in song! This is how I show my praise and love for You, all day long when it bursts forth in a song. Into the night, early in the morning, let me hear the sweet melody of Your love, sing a song into my life, my day, my very breath ... and heart beat in tune with You! Thank You for such a beautiful symphonic song of praise, thanks, glory and adoration that I can lift my voice to You, even if it isn't the best sound, You receive it with love.

NOVEMBER "NAMES of GOD" THANKS GIVING ~ 19

DAY 19

Focusing on the Name

SPIRIT
(Ruach)
Spirit of God
(Ruach Elohim)
the LORD'S Spirit
(Ruach Yahweh)
Holy Spirit
(Ruach Qodesh)

Genesis 1:2
Joel 2:28-29
John 6:63
John 14:26

That's a whole lot of Spirit! Yet as you may notice all share in common "Ruach", the Hebrew word for "spirit" which can also stand for "wind", "breath" or "mind". My, how, I rely on this Name of God and how He has reawakened time and time again, my own sleeping spirit, and renewed my commitment to growing in my relationship with God and others, actually breathing life back into these old "dry" bones. It is no wonder that He is my Advocate, my Counselor, my Power and Source, the One who breathes life into me and brings fruit where I lack so much.

His gifts I treasure more and more, in others and in me,working together in the body of believers. He fills my cup and keeps me full, energized and dependent on God (another d.o.g. acronym) [or all together f.e.d.] I am FED daily. He is my daily nourishment. He makes God's Word come alive and speak to me. He flows through my fingers at times right here and hopefully through me more and more to others.

Spirit of the Living God, Ruach, breathe Your life into me, fall afresh on me. You are always welcome in this place. Come! Purify, counsel, convict, encourage and enable me. Give me Your gifts that I might use them wisely with Your guidance and power in Your service. Breathe on me, Holy Spirit! Teach me to come to You each day and be filled so that I may live and move and have my being in You. Hallelujah! What a glorious day to give all my thanks to You! Thank You for Your Comfort! Thank You for Your Counsel! Thank You for empowering and guiding me! Holy Spirit, thank You for my thirst for You. I need You more! Come and fill my heart each day, I give You thanks and praise. Fill me and use me. I thank You for keeping Your spirit renewed in me. Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, three in One.

NOVEMBER "NAMES of GOD" THANKS GIVING ~ 18

DAY 18

Focusing on the Name
Ab, Abba
Father God

Psalm 68:5
Psalm 103:13-14
Matthew 6:31-32
Luke 12:32
2 Corinthians 6:18

"Abba" much like "Papa" is an endearing Name of God, showing closeness, in my opinion, a trust like no other. For some reason, I had a difficult time relating to God, the Father, as "Abba" or believing that I could call Him "Abba" in the first half of my life here on His earth, until I realized it's the best part of our relationship (and how much I needed my "Abba")! How also this is the primary name by which God is to be known to we, who choose to follow Him. It is indeed an honor and privilege to address God, the Father. For me, it was a distinction of respect, but it also kept God distant. Although, I repeatedly have prayed the "Our Father" since a child, it is when this relationship was solidified that I found comfort in speaking to God, my Father. I was more accustomed to chatting with my Friend, Jesus. Now I can't wait to climb up or rest my head on my Abba's lap, feet, shoulder. (sigh) Knowing Our Father, like the prodigal child that I am, makes me treasure my Abba even more ...

Abba, precious Father, Thank You for eagerly searching for me as Your prodigal child, Your beloved daughter, and welcoming me into Your loving arms. This is the Name which I now love the most to come to You first thing each day and seek Your wisdom and Word for me. Help me to grow in confidence as Your child. Please reveal Yourself as a Father to those among my family and friends that are still a far way off like the father and his prodigal son. We all need a loving Father to guide us. We all need to sit and listen to all You have to tell us and show us, with attentive eyes, ears and heart. You, O Father, are ever so great and so greatly to be praised. My thanks to You is unending and full to the brim. Thank You so much, Papa! Thank You for listening to me, thank You for sending Your precious Son, Jesus and thank You for making us all Your family. Teach me to walk obediently and thank You for Your loving discipline as my Father. Thank You for loving me so much! I love You! I give You all my gratitude for this life and the next ... eternally Yours!

Heavenly Father, I am so grateful for Your qualities of a father and that our earthly fathers may try to instill them in us yet they need Your loving, unconditional touch and grace, they may or may not have certain abilities and they may fail us, but You never will nor will You forget them or us. For this and so much more, I give You my daily thanks and praise.

NOVEMBER "NAMES of GOD" THANKS GIVING ~ 17

DAY 17

Focusing on the Name
ESH OKLAH, EL KANNA
CONSUMING FIRE, JEALOUS GOD

Deut. 4:23-24
Song of Songs 8:6
Isaiah 33:14-15
Hebrews 12:29
***

This most definitely has been a difficult concept of God to grasp or understand for me (but at least not in the way it was for Oprah Winfrey as I've heard, finding this out at a young age is what drove her away from God). (Oh, another side note, I believe this was also why God pointed me to read Hebrews,if you recall).

This was made vividly alive to me in the fire of our home in Minnesota! How the fire consumed so much yet was confined to one area or side, all was a total loss. [it was a year ago today that I shared one of the miracles of this fire, which actually occurred the end of October 2012, not on Nov. 17th]

So I ponder on how God desires to Consume us as a Jealous God. Never have I been one to like jealousy of any kind so with God, these two concepts just did not really line up with my thoughts of God being loving and so good. Yet this is how much God loves us and wants us to be consumed with Him each day. On fire with that first love passion that burns in your heart, and sets you all a flutter. He wants this never to die out or even become a kindling fire, He wants and deserves all our love and gratitude. He is jealous of the idols that we allow in that take His rightful place. He has a right to such jealousy. He wants to rid us, even if it means burn away or consume those "things" in our life that we choose not to part with or have a hard time letting go of. This truly is the most significant name driven into my heart this past year as I lament and linger in the letting go (that's why I focused last month on this)... all God's timing and preparation for me. My lesson may not be what theologians and others describe for this Name of God, yet this is how He is revealed personally to me. Jesus, in the midst of my Fire, consumed my thoughts and my belongings, to let me know how much He is in this with me and will get me through any loss, as My Consuming Fire with His love and aMazing Grace, from a Jealous God that wants ALL of me. He desires and demands a wholehearted response.

Esh Oklah, El Kanna, Thank You for such complete love! Thank You for destroying whatever is opposed to Your Holiness. I thank You that as You consume, You also protect. Because I love You and know how much You love me, I am confident of Your mercy. May You stir a zeal in me for Your honor and glory as You are a Jealous God. Thank You for giving me a deeper understanding of Your Holiness and Your desire to be exalted above all else. Your Name is Holy and greatly to be praised!

Give me the grace to be as devoted to You as You are to me and the strength to withstand the purifying, refining, life-shaping fire. I bow before You, praising and thanking You for Your steadfast, faithful love so that I may learn from You. Shape me with Your fire, burn within me this passion of Yours and separate me from everything that keeps me from You, the greatest Love of my life. May my love and gratitude be as consuming and passionate as Your relentless love that calls me to pursue more of You.

Acknowledging You, as Esh Oklah, El Kanna, does not mean for me that I am giving thanks to You for being jealous or that You consume me like a fire, but how thankful I am for the love You have for me, that it consumes me as it does You, making me love and pursue You with the same passion as You loved me first
even before I was created. Thank You for placing Your passion in me for others. May mine intensify and be more intense like Yours!

Consuming Fire, kindle Your love in me as You continue to burn afresh that love in me. Thank You! How I love You! May we learn what this aspect of Your character means before we turn from You with a misunderstanding of the title from our human concepts so I sing the song (I have linked) ... LORD, have Your way! There is such power in this Name, stir it up in our hearts.

NOVEMBER "NAMES of GOD" THANKS GIVING ~ 16

The first 15 days for November "Names of God" were given in the devotional I'm reading back in August (some have been shared on this blog before, some were new ones). Yet giving thanks to God through that particular Name, praying His Name,
makes Thanksgiving all that it should be, thanks to the One, who gives us all ...

For these last 15 days, I hope to choose 15 Names of God that may or may not be my favorites, but ones that have come alive for me as I personally discovered them anew in our relationship (mine with God) because they have been revealed afresh this past year or on a deeper, more intimate level in my understanding of God as I now see and know Him.
[source:FB]

Yes, Jesus, BE REVEALED more deeply because through You, I am able to know the Father, as I offer my gratitude with a heart full of thanks!!! I give thanks for drawing closer to You in this time of need for more of You (and always less of me).

Day 16

Focusing on the Name
FRIEND

Proverbs 17:17
Proverbs 27:9
John 15:15

I believe this was the first name that drew me close to Jesus, as My Friend, which made God so much more approachable for me. This is where our relationship started and that I am so fond of remembering God as my Friend so this is where I'll begin.

I so wanted to have a Friend like Jesus, that this made our relationship easy for me to understand. Considering Jesus, as a Friend, early in our relationship, made me want to be the Best friend to Him and as close as I could so that I would know God better, love Him more completely and seek Him more fully each day. His friendship is so important in our relationship.

This is the easiest part of God to comprehend and really like sharing and knowing. I thought this might be the easiest prayer of thanks to offer to God and a short one to start with, but in fact, expressing my gratitude for our friendship is as unending, continuation each day and as you'll see ... long, and I have so much more to pour out as thanksgiving that I could go on and on ...

Jesus, Thank You for Your friendship. Thank You also for drawing together so many wonderful friends throughout the world that are Your friends too and You have given me the pleasure to cross our paths! It is so delightful to share our friendship as we follow after You, as the leader of this Friend club. You are the Best Friend Forever! I am thankful for You since the first day we met. You change my life and make me better. How I wish I was more of a friend like You and to You, but I'm learning. So many joys we share and so many troubles and pains, You have seen me through together. When I needed a friend, You were always there with me. Thank You so much!

Help me to be the best friend I possible can be to those with whom You have blessed me so much! I give thanks for each friend as I give thanks to You, My Friend, for just being that - my Friend through thick and thin. Thank You that You are the Best kind of Friend (as this sermon shares "7 ways Jesus is the Best Friend you could ever have" by Brian Atwood)

I love You forever, Friend! Thank You for loving me with such incredible love! No other Friend could or would lay their life on the line as You have and even if they did, it would not cover my debt as You did. Thank You for paying the debt for my sins that I could not pay. Forgive me! Help me to consistently honor our friendship and place the importance on our relationship that it merits each day. Thank You for Your sweet whispers that daily remind me we are friends. Listen to the love within my heart for You as it beats each day more in sync, I pray, with Yours ...
