"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." ~ from ISAIAH 61 Bible verse for this Blog

DAY 1
"Just the Right Time"
Galatians 4:4-5

No matter what reading plan you may be doing for Advent, we can pray this prayer
from Pastor Louie Giglio

PRAYER
"Father, meet me in the waiting, the place where I long for what is not fully in view. Still my heart and give me the ability to know that You are near. I believe Your plans are good. I see it in the birth of Your only Son.
But sometimes I struggle to see beyond the haze that surrounds me. Renew my confidence as I lift my eyes to You. Be glorified in my life during this season of expectation. Amen. "

{I wonder if Pastor Louie Giglio had this song in mind}

INVITATION

* NOTE: Advent (meaning) comes from the Latin word "adventus" meaning "coming" or "arrival". For Christians, the season of Advent anticipates the coming of Christ from two different perspectives. The season offers the opportunity to share in the ancient longing for the coming of the Messiah, and to be alert for His Second Coming.

THANKFUL HEART through PRAYER ~ 30 ~ WORKS

Day 30

WORKS

James 2:22
James 2:24
James 2:26
Ephesians 2:10
Galatians 3:11
Romans 10:17
Philippians 2:13

I can think of so many other "thankful"s to give thanks for - to God , and this one would not be on my list with top 30 priority... although without works ... of faith, well ... Adam Houge ends with this and certainly backs it up with plenty of Biblical verses and encourages us to practice our faith as we continue in a heart of gratitude ...

"Open my eyes to see You working all around me. You said the Father is always working. Show me Your daily goodness that I can praise You for the things I don't see. Open my eyes to perceive Your works."

"The works of Your hands are so wondrous! ..."

" All these things You've created in all their vast glory and yet You would consider me!? ..."

"Teach me Your ways, O Lord that I can walk in them. For Your works and Your ways are too wonderful for me. ..."

Lord, teach me what it means to rest from my works as You work in me and through me by Your wisdom. My works cannot attain to Yours, so I pray that You will be glorified in me by working through me. Let my faith be set in motion as I work according to leading. Let Your righteousness work in me as I walk by faith. I surrender to Your hands. Please put Yours in mine and work through me." Adam Houge

"Work IN ME and THROUGH ME to Your Glory,
as I submit to You..."

Thank You for Your Works
Thank You for continuing to work in me
and not giving up on this
WORK in PROGRESS

I seek to do Your Work for Your glory
as I am able and guided by You
wanting to live according to Your heart daily
for which I give You thanks

Thank You for Your
Workmanship in me,
created in Christ Jesus
for good works
Thank You for God's voice
 and
God's Word
a complete work
a wondrous work
a truly inspiring work
of great portion and beauty

Whatever work You place in my care
may I do it pleasingly and willingly
for You --- Thank You!

THANKFUL HEART through PRAYER ~ 29 ~ INTEGRITY

Day 29

INTEGRITY

Luke 16:12

" Thank You for all the ways You work around me to provide even when I don't see it. Thank You for everything You do to lead me safely and tenderly even when I'm not aware. Thank You God for Your perfect loving integrity."Adam Houge

Thank You Father
for Your integrity

Help me to be true and strengthen
my character to what I know is right
and be able to walk in integrity of heart

Let Your integrity guide me
in every situation

Fill me with integrity of heart, Lord
Help me to be like Jesus
who refused to abandon His integrity
all the way to the cross

Thank You for helping me be
a person of integrity
never proclaiming my own goodness
but Yours in me
as You make me into a faithful person
who is just and filled with integrity
that comes from You
Thank You!
May Your integrity and Your skill
emanate from my life!

Personal integrity is priceless!
Your integrity is priceless!
Thank You Lord!

(although there isn't a song "great is Your integrity", I give You
praise for Your integrity and how great and important it is for us as Christians)

"INTEGRITY"(pdf)

however this song is good about
INTEGRITY
"Tell My Father"
by John Owens Jones
and also in
"Les Miserables: Who am I"

I have always admired the trait of integrity

THANKFUL HEART through PRAYER ~ 26 ~ HUMILITY

Day 26

HUMILITY
1 Peter 5:6-7
Philippians 2:3-11

"Jesus, Thank You for humbling Your self for my sake. I'm not worthy of this kind of love! Who am I that the Lord of all would humble Himself for my sake? What manner of humility is this that the King would die for a condemned criminal? I've sinned against You and deserve hell, but You loved me and died for me!? Teach me to be like You, Jesus! Help me to carry my cross daily as I seek to honor You. Remind me to walk in humility in everything I do. I don't pray to be humiliated but to be strengthened in  Your Spirit to have a humble heart. I want to arm myself with the same mind You had, and be humble in all my conduct. ...as I learn to walk humbly before You."AH

After eating some "humble pie" (oh no, it was pumpkin pie){now I have to check out the origin of that expression and meaning here} ... I could use a prayer thanking God for HUMILITY and no better example than Him with sending Jesus as a new babe born in a stable... can't get too much more humble.

O Lord, ... In humility I recommit my life to serving You with many tears of repentance and compassion for others. Your Word tells me to be clothed with humility because You resist the proud and give grace to the humble. In view of this, I willingly humble myself under Your Mighty hand and all authority. You command in Your Word for Your people "to humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways and seek Your face" then we will hear from heaven and You will heal our land. So, Lord, help me to walk in humility. Thank You for Your example of humility. Thank You for turning Your face toward my poor and contrite spirit desiring to walk in a humble way. Thank You for showing me how I can offer sacrifices acceptable to You from a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart, a vessel that You can use. Thank You that the fear of the Lord is instruction of wisdom and before honor is humility. Instruct me to seek wisdom and honor through humility and in no other way. Thank You that true humility and the fear of the Lord work together with the power of Your Word. Thank You for drawing me near yet showing me the importance of humility! Thank You for the humility I see in others. Thank You for the opportunity to come humbly yet boldly to Your Throne of Grace and draw near to Your heart of humility and so much mercy and grace.

THANKFUL HEART through PRAYER ~ 25 ~ HOPE

Day 25

HOPE

1 Peter 1:3
Hebrews 10:23
Psalm 71:14

"Thank You Jesus for the hope You give me! Help me to reflect upon it daily, especially during a trial. Thank You for Your faithfulness in every circumstance of life."Adam Houge

"Thank You that I can know You as My Savior and have hope laid up for me. Thank You for everything You do daily to save me. I surrender to Your daily leading that You can deliver me from every circumstance of life." Adam Houge

Thank You LORD
for the
HOPE
I find in You
Thank You for HOPE all year
every day in every thing
help me
Hold
On
Persevering
Expectantly

Thank You for Your Hope
that
has taken on more meaning
to me personally
this year

How perfect is this for me, that right before Thanksgiving Day, we would have this day be to thank God for HOPE! He is the God of Hope and in this we must believe and keep believing especially if we are in a place of "Hope Being Gone" and know that we need to hold on and persevere with the kind of Hope Jesus gives, not that of this world but His and that we are "Daring to Hope" and make Hope a "Hope Habit" by "Let(ting) Hope In" so we realize "The Power of Hope" as it "Rain(s) On Me" (just a few of the "Hope" book titles I have taken a glance at or read this year). I thank God for "Hope for Your Heart" (and mine) that comes in "Whispers of Hope" even "Finding Hope in Times of Grief", no matter what your "Hope Quotient", God wants to raise your Hope in Him. written 11/9 {all words in "s are titles to books}

On November 10th, I received an urgent email from a dear friend that another dear friend was in ICU with 90% blockage to her heart (and it's such a beautiful heart that has always reflected Jesus to me but she has been suffering so much in these past few years). At the time that I opened this email with this heavy news, I was searching for more on HOPE to finish my year with My One Word well. As I prayed for my dear friend, tears welled up and broke forth with even more heaviness and a lot less hope (when we received the first update) and I passed this quickly on to another friend telling her how "this took the wind right out of my ails and hope from my heart" and she quickly replied that "we can't lose hope" but in that instant even though I was in prayer, hope was eluding me so I pressed in even more and recalled how I had written and read on Hope all year, books and Bible verses galore, but at this moment in that day ... my HOPE seemed to be slipping away because I knew my dear friend was right and the one in ICU needed that HOPE then I recalled that just yesterday I had written these words for giving thanks for HOPE! My dear friend in ICU's birthday is Nov. 20th ... surely she will see her birthday. And by God's grace she has.

So I continued on my search for more HOPE when I opened my "Names of God" Bible (because of another dear friend's post that very day on "Elohim") and I came upon "Miqweh Yisrael" Hope of Israel ... and I read this:
"Hope is the great stabilizer. It steadies us in times of fear and difficulty, not because we know everything will turn out as we want, but because we know that God is trustworthy. "
"Hope is what helps us stay on course regardless of circumstances. Biblical hope finds its roots in God and in His goodness, mercy, and power. We exercise our hope when we endure patiently. We nurture our hope when we read God's Word. We strengthen our hope when we follow God faithfully. Though we hope for earthly blessings. our greatest hope is aimed at the life to come, when God will not only wipe away our tears but invite us to share His joy forever."
" In the New Testament, hope is rooted firmly in Jesus - in His life, death and resurrection as well as in His promise to come again in glory. We can have hope for this life because the Holy Spirit indwells us ..."
Miqweh Yisrael, Hope of Israel, You are my hope, too! Please help me get through the hard times (as I pray also for my friend and her family and my other friends, too) by leaning into the promises You have made. Lord, You alone are my unshakable Hope, my Faithful God. And I thank You for Your Hope everlasting.

You can be sure that I will have more to share on this before this year ends.

THANKFUL HEART through PRAYER ~ 24 ~ NEARNESS

Day 24

NEARNESS

Hebrews 10:22
James 4:8

Lord, "You're always so good to hold me close! I want to rest my head on Your chest like John did. Thank You that I can have this nearness with You. I love You Lord. You're always so good to me."Adam Houge

Loving Lord

I thank You that You are near.

I want to deepen my intimacy with You.

So I choose to press into You so that I can be closer to You.

You are near in my heart

You are near in my life

You are near in our midst

I desire and long to be so near
in Your Presence every day

Thank You for the privilege
to draw near
to be near

And to know the nearness
of Your heartbeat
To know the nearness of Your breath

To know the nearness
of You in me

Wrap me up in Your Spirit

as
I draw near to You
I know that You draw near to me

Purify my heart
Prepare me for that nearness
where we cannot be separate
that's how much
You love us
and
want us
to draw near

"HE IS HERE"

Thank You Father
Thank You for being here
Thank You for being near
Thank You for being
in our hearts
in our lives
in our midst
May I always trust that You are
so
NEAR
and
in Your nearness
may I feel Your holy breath so near
then help me to lean in and hear
Your whisper

"I love You!"
