"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." ~ from ISAIAH 61 Bible verse for this Blog

How many of you, like me,
would like to start this
Year of 2014

my horse and our adopted son

I know that this really isn't possible, and I am not promoting any of this as my beliefs, but today is the start of the Chinese New Year. I know very little about any of this, however, I do know that I was born under one of the years of the horse. So, this should be my year, right? So far, I have not seen that but I'm putting my faith only in what God will do and not betting my money on any horse (lol). Yet, being such a lover of horses (maybe you didn't know this about me, but I owned horses and raised a couple; a newborn from my mare and a yearling, the father). This is why I am or was attracted to all the hoop-la and images, etc. I have seen promoting the Chinese 2014 Year of the Horse or more specifically, Green Horse and even more, Green Wood Horse ... {I definitely am not going to educate you on all of these elements and Chinese traditions. I'm far from an expert on that and it's not the point of this opportunity for my re-start of 2014.

Well, I've never seen a green horse, but I most certainly have heard the expression of "bein' green" and know Kermit's song that "it's not easy bein' green?" and I couldn't agree more. In fact, I was "green" when it came to raising and breaking my Arab stallion. "Being green" actually refers to someone not being experienced in a particular field or activity, whether it's an interest, hobby, career, position, etc. When teaching English to anyone whose first language is not English, you need to be aware of all these expressions and colloquials to be able to explain them. Yep, I definitely was "green" when it came to my horses but I loved them and learning from them and about them so that's why I could not wait to have my own as an adult when we first acquired our home with 7 and a half acres. Yippee! The problem was that we did not have much grazing area, it's all pines---row after row, with the stipulation that we could not cut them down our first 5 years there. I could write forever about "horses" and my experiences which would make you laugh ... but the reasons I thought of this are: 1) most of the images I have seen for the Chinese 2014 New Year have "red horses" not "green" and 2) that I have another devotional for 40 days that is perfect for this year of the horse (but I have not started it yet with all my other ones) ... and 3) because of this devotional, I thought about all the spiritual lessons in horses and our Christian life. For me, "being green" and "being reined" are just two examples that I've seen in my life.

The truth is that I am or should not "be green" in sharing Jesus Christ after all my experience and life journey with Him as my Savior ... BUT I act and behave as if I am "green" when I'm not. A better way of looking at this "being green" spiritually would be with fruit like a tomato, which we know that if it's still green, it's not ripe ... except of course, green tomatoes known as tomatillos here in Mexico, used in many green sauces. A fruit that is not yet ripe or ready, has not matured. Aye, there's my rub. My fruit, which should be full and mature, is still in its growing stages, its time of blooming, pruning, ripening... ouch! Now that truth hurts ... and it's this truth, for the last few years, that I have been made very much aware of as I look in that mirror and image of my reflection of Jesus Christ in my life and my evangelizing. Double ouch! How can this be? I desire "everyone" to know and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, yet first I must BE what God wants for each of us

"Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will not come near you."(Psalm 32: 9 NKJV)
"A horse without understanding is a horse that has no relationship with his trainer."~Pauline Creeden (the 40 day devotional, Christian In Training)

Likewise, a Christian or a person, who has no relationship with God, with Jesus Christ, as Lord will not want to follow, trust, go where He leads ... you get the idea ... I am not sure when, but I can't wait to read and share Pauline Creeden's devo/book.

And as of today,
I am starting over with

not to repeat any of it so far
but to focus on
God desires to do in me and through me

Bridled, reined, saddled
filled with
in this
New Year
of the

The good part of this, is that the horse has some very admirable characteristics too
and those, born in the year of the horse, are suppose to have many of these qualities, meaning MOI (mu-ah)! like this:
"People born in the Year of the Horse are clever, kind, animated and energetic. Although they sometimes talk too much,(oh yeah) they are cheerful, perceptive, talented and love to be in the center of a crowd.(not anymore) They are popular among friends, active at work and have a deft sense of humor.(ouch)
2014 is the year of the Wooden Horse. Wood Horses are strong and stable and have a better ability to make decisions. Excellent at interacting with others, they are successful personally and professionally."

just for fun info
"Year of the Horse" begins on Feb. 4th, 2014
and in USA the Chinese New Year began on the 30th, not the 31st
So here's to Starting Over in February

than all the above

I found that "Fresh Start" with SRT (She Reads Truth) summed this up best in the "What's Next" post for the final day, which also takes us back to the Introduction of this reading plan with the "let's resolve ... " parts.  So, even though I am not doing "resolutions" per se, I definitely want those 3 parts of "their proposition" to:
"... resolve to walk with Him as He makes it right. ... determine to get closer to Him through His Word. ... notice all that He is already doing and join Him in it."

Day 30
link to the devotion
Focus: Awesomeness
"Psalm 89:6-7"

[note: whenever the Day falls on Thurs. I will be combining my Grateful 2/4 God with the Name or characteristic given in this devotion for our Focusmaybe after reading Rebecca's full, short devotion, it will inspire your gratitude to join me

For more about this, go back to here and follow any of these

I'm so GRATEFUL 2 God
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 89:6-7

 "For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord?
He is more awesome than all who surround Him."

 O LORD God Creator of all that I marvel at in heaven and on earth, there is no one like You. You even rock the scientists and archaeologists according to Rebecca. I am in awe when I take the time to pause and gaze in the wonder of it all. It is far too much to fathom or comprehend the creativity of Your hands, the same hands that formed me and those I love. No genius comes close or compares, nor strikes me with the magnitude of all You breathed or molded into existence. You are wonderful and greatly to be praised. But first, I must thank You for You indeed are awesome!!! "Too marvelous for words ... too wonderful for comprehension ...  Majesty ..."
{much better to just sing this to You}

How have you
experienced God's "awesomeness" this week
(or would like to or need to)

F: Focus on a Name of God or one of His attributes; Find a Verse
O: Open His Word~the Bible; allow God to reveal Himself
C: Center on HIM, Come into His Presence; Call on Him to speak
U: Understand God & His Truth in His Word; Unmask your heart to God
S: Saturate and Soak as you Share your GRATITUDE for God to God*

Just write on being grateful 2 God 4 who He is!
(in a prayer of gratitude)

Please tell us in the comments your response for the week to how you are grateful to God as ... the *FOCUS NAME for this week (given by me above*) like I've tried to share

do your own
and tell us

"I'm grateful to God as my  ... because ...  or  "I'm grateful for God's  ... (quality) because ... (a Scripture would be nice if ya' got one in your head, or just come back, the blog's always here even when I'm not) or *better yet you can write out a prayer to Him right in my comments of how you are thankful for experiencing God as that Name or quality of God implies ...

I came upon this book "The Joshua Code" with 52 Scripture verses that every believer should know and this will be my focus for  my "WORD ON WEDS.", one for each week (hopefully it will be like the old "Word Filled Weds") or maybe not, because I just want to add that I really do love what Internet Cafe Devotions is doing by "praying the Word" as they changed WFW to add {See and Pray} to incorporate and take us beyond the Word and an image to sharing the Word in Prayer, which I really like! So we'll see ... as we memorize and meditate with

by O.S.Hawkins

The Scripture Verses
{thus far for 2014}

1. Genesis 1: 1
2. John 3: 16
3. Ephesians 2: 8

This week
"A Psalm for the Ages"

Memorizing and Meditating
4. Psalm 23:1

(there are more verses from this Psalm later)

"The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. "(NIV)(NET)
"The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need." (NLT)
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." (NASB) (ESV)
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." (KJV)

BIBLE HUB to see various versions and commentaries on Psalm 23:1 and you can choose whichever one you are comfortable with ... or read them all and expand your understanding. I like Bible Gateway (but currently cannot scroll through the versions and I end up with some language I don't understand) ... so I can see other Bible versions like the Amplified or The Message ... which say respectively:

"The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me],
I shall not lack."

"God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing."

Promise #46: Psalm 23:1

This one is recorded already in my memory through a song I learned as a child. I love memorizing scripture through songs. I find this to be a helpful way to learn. I could not find the song I sing but here is a wonderful one with Keith Green ... and of course, this lines up and goes with the direction God took me last week when I wrote "FAITHFUL LOST SHEEP" and one that I shared last year twice with links to Roy Lessin from "Meet Me in the Meadow" Ps. 23. Isn't that what we HOPE? To meet and be with Our Shepherd "in the meadow" ... in the valley, on the mountaintops, wherever our life journey takes us, may we go with Him, with Jesus as Our Shepherd.

Joshua 1:8 says,

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

* I found a church that is sharing these online weekly as well, no content like the book does, just the verse for Memorization and Meditation. If I do not yet have the verse memorized, I will be doing that and if I have the verse memorized already, I will be meditating on the Scripture Verse throughout the week. I guess this was a 2013 phenomenon, so again I'm behind on this.

*** what a bummer that the image does not show in Google Chrome, maybe it does in Firefox or IE but here's the link to the specific one. That was the whole point of sharing WOW with the Joshua Code!

MOORE On Monday (M.O.M.) Day 27

by Beth Moore

for today
Day 27
Focus: Psalm 119:89
Scripture Reading: Psalm 119:89-96
*Concluding Scripture: Matt. 24:35

"Times will change— but God’s Word remains solid. Look to the legacy of timeless advice, to those tips that will last when today’s technology is a laugh from the past*from "Whispers of Hope: 10 Weeks of Devotional Prayer" (p. 83) by Beth Moore  (2013-09-29)

"God’s Word stands the test of time and was written purposely to pertain to every generation. Why? Because His counsel applies regardless of changes in our lives.from "Whispers of Hope: 10 Weeks of Devotional Prayer" by Beth Moore

" ... we have an anchor in the Word of God ... "
from "Whispers of Hope: 10 Weeks of Devotional Prayer" by Beth Moore

Heavenly Father, In this age of information and technology (in constant ever changing "upgrades"), You and Your Word remain constant and unchanging.
I praise You and give thanks that You are the same, yesterday, today and forever.
You are in control and I am not. Forgive me for the times I turn to the quick search of the world rather than to Your Word first. I submit to Your supreme authority, knowledge and the right to reign in my life today and every day. For Your Word never fails and You have never failed me. Your Word is solid and timeless! Your Word is truly the best "health plan" emotionally (and every way), there is no better "plan than biblical forgiveness and divine healing" as Beth wrote. May I run to You and Your Word first. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Jehovah, My Rock and My Redeemer. Thank You for Your Word that is an anchor for my soul in the whirlwinds and storms, I will cling to You and Your Promises.

{insert private intercession for others and myself at this point, perhaps more specific confessions of sin, poor choices or lack of fruit in me}

For You alone are Holy and worthy of all my thanks and praise! You know each step in my life and my journey forward before I even cross it and I ask that You go before me, making crooked places straight, moving mountains and stirring my faith
constantly as I grow and mature in You and Your ways, laying aside my poor choices and decisions, searches or tips in the internet, wisdom or ways of the world and poor habits I have for ALL that You designed and purposed and planned as You guide my feet and actions this day ... equip me as I surrender to You and Your will by Your Holy Spirit, I ask in Jesus' precious name ...

{update: I now have reposted this back to 1/26/14, the day it was given}

I listened to the message of this teaching by Pastor Pete Wilson at least 3 times and read the chapters that go along with CHOICE #3. I finally decided that there is no way that I can sum it up or share this adequately because I am convinced that Pastor Pete Wilson's message is a great one of salvation, his ending prayer is so moving and the content of this material for this 3rd Choice needs to be heard directly from him. I know that this message truly touched me as tears flowed as he closed so beautifully in his talk (prayer) with God ... on God's aMazing Grace and Unconditional Love! So I am just sharing the video this time, not my notes (and perhaps some of the quotes I highlighted that stand out)!

Week 3
Ephesians 1:18

Choosing to Trust rather than Please

"Let Hope In: 4 Choices That Will Change Your Life Forever"
by Pete Wilson
Cross Point Church

CHOICE #1 (Jan. 12) Choosing to TRANSFORM instead of TRANSFER

CHOICE #2: (Jan. 19) Choosing to be OK with not being OK

January 26th, 2014

CHOICE # 3: Choosing to Trust rather than Please

{this is well worth your time to watch, whether you are a new or a seasoned disciple of Jesus Christ}

Galatians 2:15-18

"Living for acceptance and love is SLAVERY; living from acceptance and love is FREEDOM."~Pete Wilson

{really difficult for me to limit my choices of his great statements from each chapter on Choice #3: TRUST vs. PLEASING when everything seemed to speak to me}

Chapters for Choice #3

7. Trusting vs. Pleasing
a. "The Spiritual Treadmill";
b. "The Most Important Thing about You";
c. "Two Distinct Paths";
d. "Solving My Issues";
e. "He Loves Me,
f.  "He Loves Me Not";
  • 8. Surprised by God: a. "What is God Like?"; b."A God Who Runs"; c. "The Joy of Restoration" Luke 15:22-24;"
  • 9. Fork in the Road: a. "A Big Question Mark?"; b."Moving Forward"; c. "Living Out the Future Before it Arrives"; d. "This Moment"

"Many of us wrestle with trying to please God with our good deeds."~Pete Wilson, (7) "The Spiritual Treadmill"

"Remember, we’ve been hardwired for Attention, Acceptance, Appreciation, and Affection, and since we’ve spent our life trying to earn these 4 A’s, it seems natural to project that on God and fall into the routine of trying to please Him."~Pete Wilson(7)"Two Distinct Paths"

Pleasing God = working on my sin issues
Trusting God = believing I am who God says I am

Hebrews 11:6

"The intention not to sin is not the same as the power not to sin."~Pete Wilson

"Jesus introduces us to a God who will let us make our own mistakes."~Pete Wilson~"Jesus reminds us that there is a heavenly Father who is running us down."

"Many of us wonder if we’ve made decisions in our past that were outside of God’s will that are wreaking havoc on the present."~Pete Wilson(9)

"Path One: This is the path of pleasing God or “working on my sin” so I can achieve an intimate relationship with God."~Pete Wilson(7)~
"Path Two: This is the path of trusting God with my sin instead of trying to please him by not sinning, which is the goal of the first."

"God’s will is your growth in Christlikeness."~Pete Wilson

"Gratitude is also one of the most important and most underrated aspects of our walk with God."~Pete Wilson

"We bypass the joy of today when we center all our focus on yesterday or tomorrow."~Pete Wilson

* On Jan. 12th, Pastor Pete Wilson with Cross Point Church tv began the series from his recent book that I reviewed last fall "Let Hope In".

1st message January 12th, 2014
2nd message January 19, 2014

I covered CHOICE #1 (YouTube link) here (my blog link) and CHOICE #2 (YT link) here (mine). It looks like Pastor Pete will be/is doing a CHOICE each week (which is 3-4 chapters in his book) in a little over a half hour message that you can watch here (at iTunes or Cross Point tv YouTube Channel /video)

SOS ~ "Petals of Hope"

"Petals of Hope"
[limited edition artwork]
[by Thomas Kinkade: credit of painting]

"I sometimes visualize faith as a garden, where hope is in abundant bloom. In The Garden of Promise, we stood at the gate of that wondrous retreat. In Petals of Hope, we've entered the garden where the lavish blossoms dazzle the eye and the air is fragrant with hope." — Thomas Kinkade

This beautiful painting by Thomas Kinkade, once again, draws us into a Garden. This one that Thomas Kinkade himself saw as a core part in "The Garden of Promise" [another limited edition, that I'm sure I will share this year] "Petals of Hope", which is entered by another limited edition piece "Bridge of Faith" (all works by the artist of light).

I'm sure that you, like I have, held a beautiful flower in your hands, and found yourself plucking off each petal by petal, perhaps even reciting, "he loves me, he loves me not" ... but with each petal there was the "hope" that it would be "love".

As I start off down the path in the Garden of Grace or Promise, with my one word for 2014 held tightly in my hand, HOPE is on every petal, the blossoms of HOPE, the fresh fragrance in each breath, holding on to HOPE for the new day and what God will bring. The "petals of hope" that I am turning to are the promises or scripture verses on HOPE. Perhaps, the first place that many go to with their new word is searching for a definition, yet I choose to begin my search in the Garden of Promises of God's Word, in the Bible and at least the beginning of biblical verses that center on HOPE:each one a petal of HOPE

Starting off, with the 3 verses I have chosen

Isaiah 40:31

Hebrews 6:19

Romans 12:12

{I just decided not to narrow down my choices yet}

And although I am storing up so many other "petals of HOPE", a wonderful blogger friend sent me hers that she had posted, but the BEST part is to hear the music composed by her as well for many of these verses and also this special song she did "Hope of Glory". Cathy is a sweet fragrance of HOPE often for me and so is her music over at Melodies and Hymnsongs and WordSong Collections

Since I have images for the first two verses I chose (1) an eagle and (2) an anchor, it only seems fitting that I choose one for the 3rd verse from Romans 12:12, which I believe goes perfectly with the "petals of hope" painting by Thomas Kinkade

Petal 2
